matchmaking

There is a woman I know who has been talking to a man who lives very far away. They “met” via the internet (a match-making thingy). I have been fortunate enough to watch their correspondence over the past 3 months. She has forwarded me emails and sent me pictures of him. All was going very well. The “relationship” progressed and now he is indeed flying here in September to see her. There is one thing, however. She is a large woman. Very large. She is dieting like mad. She is scared. He is thin and fit, (judging from his pictures). He is asking her for pictures and she hasn’t done it yet. She’s been putting it off. She brought back a bunch of pictures from a 1 hour photo place which her friend took. She was very upset as they were all of her entire body. So she asked me if I could do something for her. I took some pictures of her. But was told that I could ONLY take pictures of her head. I then removed any blemishes from the picture and cropped everything to her neck. I feel terribly bad for her. I really do. She is so nervous. She’s sick to her stomach.

  1. You should always be upfront with people from the very begining. I really hope this works out for her.

  2. I don’t want to see it happen. I want to be far away. I don’t know if her state of mind can take it. If you catch my drift.

  3. Ugh…this is sad. I hope she doesn’t suffer any physical trama from the crazy dieting she’s probably putting herself through. Sounds like she needs to get happy with herself before she meets someone that will ever end up respecting her.

    Sigh.

  4. Honestly, Mihow, it most likely will not work out. And someone should be there for her to tell her “I think it’s time to talk to someone.” Get her on a plan…nutritionist, exercise, therapist. It’s the hard way, but she’ll make herself a whole lot happier. Not saying this person should be you, but I hope she has someone who cares about her.

No one should be freaking out like she is, changing her whole image on Photoshop.

  6. Just how did your mom convince you to participate in this deception? Did she offer you money? Hold the teenage photos over your head? Promise you an old Volvo?

  9. Michele, we should just get used to the fact that dad will in fact be burning in hell. They have a bunk bed waiting for him. Plus, he’ll have to share the room with Geraldo Rivera.

  10. Geraldo will keep bursting through the wall only to find nothing. Bob will have falled for the weeks of promises and build-up Geraldo spit out before the event. Bob will have wanted more than anything to see what treasures the old mobster left behind.

Bob will then understand what hell is all about.

  11. does he get the top or the bottom bunk. It’s probably cooler up top, no?

Though, on the bottom, one can cool a bit from second-drip sweat.

One girl had even sent fake pictures. The other was actually scared enough to go to work before 8 am just to be away while she visited (and if you knew this kid, man, oh man, is that saying a lot).

Moral of the story? Be honest, and for pete’s sake, avoid internet relationships!
