OK, Internet, this is easy. Are we having a boy or a girl? We find out on Monday (most likely) so now is your chance to play along. Why would you want to play along? Because I’m asking you nicely. Please play along? (And for all you freaking weirdo lurkers out there, use a fake name or something. I’m getting tired of the lurkage, people. Refer to yourself as “Lurker1” for all I care but refer to yourself every now and again. Besides, this particular request requires you write just one small word.)
Boy or girl?
Girl
girl
boy
Boy. I base this upon no knowledge or authority of my own.
I’m gonna say boy.
and mine is purely wishful thinking, not based on any insight. I am tired of everyone I know having boys.
I’ll go with girl!
two boys, three girls and a pepsi.
I believe in women’s intuition… BOY! A mini-Toby :)
Girl.
(only because i have a girl and i love it)
girl.
delurking to say ‘girl’ – mainly because of the pretty shoes.
Boy.
Girlie Girl.
I’m curious about your reason(s) for wanting to know.
I say a girl. Just based on the amount of sickness you have been having. I hear if you are really sick the baby tends to be a girl.
I’ll say “BOY” because I’m having a girl ans maybe they can grow up and go to the prom together.
Girl…
Are you going to tell everyone when/if you find out? I hear the parts have to be in the right places at the time during the ultrasound in order to know for sure.
girl
girl
Girl. More excuses for shopping.
Girl!
John: it would have been really funny had linked to that article and written “boy.”
I guessed right that Torrie is having a girl, is all I’m saying, and also that my best friend Cecily would be having a girl (and she did).
And my gut tells me you are having a BOY.
:D
Based on John’s link, female quintuplets.
Dear Ndugu,
Hi, how are you? I am fine.
I do not know if you are a boy or a girl and because you cannot talk in sentences yet, or at all, we’re still out here guessing. But you know what would be really funny? If, during the ultrasound, you turned yourself around and showed us only your little hiney. It’ll probably make your moms and your dad a little mad but that’s okay. You can tell them I put you up to it.
Talk to you soon.
Love,
Missy
Boy.
Boy, just because every girl needs a big brother!
Not sure how he’ll be a Gunner if he’s a she.
I hope it’s like, 8 boys.
And a kitten.
Twins! hahahah No, really….a boy.
Without any question or hesitation, I know that you are having a baby girl.
Of course, I also picked the Bears to win, so you might not want to paint the nursery pink just yet… ;)
Congrats either way!
boy.
it seems to be what everyone is having, so why not add you to the list!
girl!
boy!
haha—that would have been funny, but i didn’t want to provoke THE RAGE
boy! and I have no idea why I say that…except I have one!
Boy!
Delurking (for the second time)to say girl. The old wives do say that more sickness = girl…
Girl?
reason:
When I was pregnant, we didn’t want to find out the sex, but I (and I everyone I knew) was convinced I was having a boy. By the shape and size of my belly. Then I did some “old wives” quizzes on the internet and consulted a Chinese birth chart, and they too both indicated I would have a boy. I even bought predominantly “boy” clothes. What a surprise when my partner put a squirming little girl on my belly! So for that reason I would say you are having a girl (because you seem to feel it is a boy).
Boy?
reason:
I had very very little morning sickness at all when I was pregnant, besides feeling extremely tired and bitchy, which I guess doesn’t count as a sickness. (PMS-type bitchiness=girl ?)
How about a boy AND a girl… any history of twins in the family?
Well, we’ve seen the ultrasound already and there is only one baby in there. (Thank goodness. Not sure what I would do with two).
I don’t agree the more sickness = girl. I had much less morning sickness with my daughter.
Yeah, I have received about 7 email about this exact concept and of those 7, 5 said more sickn = girl, the rest said more sick = boy. I guess I’m having a hermaphrodite.
girl!
Would it be better to have a boy first, then a girl—so the older brother can beat up all the guys that give her dirty looks when you and toby are looking the other way?
Or do you want a girl, and then a boy—so he has a better chance at meeting older women ?
Screw it – boy.
there were no issues during the pregnancy for our healthy son. he looks like a boy and acts like a boy, and some of his chromosomes are a boy’s XY pattern. but some of his chromosomes just have an X, and one of his testes did not develop properly and actually included undeveloped ovarian cells, making him, technically, a hermaphrodite.
there are some children who have xy genotype but don’t develop any male sex characteristics because of something called androgen insensitivity syndrome. rumor has it that Jamie Lee Curtis is genotype xy.
the dynamics of sex and gender are complex and it’s impossible to divine from the effects from the hormonal cauldron that your body has become what your child’s gender will be.
but i’m betting it’s a boy because i just flipped a coin.
For the record, I was kidding about the hermaphrodite comment. I wrote that to point out the possible flaw with the whole “this baby makes you sicker” concept since I have received emails sharing the exact point but with the exact opposite gender.
Jonathan: Tobyjoe says we’re only having one. He flat out refuses to have two – not up for discussion. I’m OK with that. I’m happy to have one. So whatever this one is, is what we’re gonna get! :]”
i was not offended by the hermaphrodite comment. our healthy, beautiful son is a joy to his mother and me. we might never have found out about his genotypic difference if it hadn’t been for the minor abnormality in one of his testicles.
boy? girl? the possibilities seem pretty well defined, but the fact is that there is a lot going on.
are you going for another ultrasound today? how are you testing?
Boygirl or a Girlboy – they will have the surgery when they move out.
a hermaphro-what?
a girl. you are having a girl.
I’ll go with the parents and say boy!
He says one now. He might change his mind.
Personally, considering as you two are rational liberal people, I think its important for you to have at least 2 children—and ‘replace’ your own stock. I think it would be better for you to have 3.
The new liberalism: raising our number the old fashioned way, mindless procreation.
They say we liberals are going to screw ourselves soon as we don’t have as many babies as the conservative folks do. I read that somewhere at some point, I don’t remember where.
The thing is, many of the liberal families I know waited until they were much older to start procreating, which makes me think there’s a little truth to that.
Oh, and Lake, Tobyjoe hasn’t said what he thinks yet because he’s living up to his name, which is NO FUN BEANER. He will not play these games with me. It drives me bonkers, it does.
Boy.
Jumping back to the comments about feeling sick and therefore getting a girl…I can say that I was not sick for my first pregnancy and I had a girl but on my second pregnancy I did get sick and I had another girl! I didn’t find out the sex for either pregnancy but that didn’t stop every Joe Schmoe on the street giving me their thoughts on what I was having. It is kinda funny cause most people thought I was having a boy both times….Aside from all of that, I still think you are having a girl. :o)
Girl [so i have an excuse to shop Hello Kitty]
Top 2 reasons why I’m not yet ready to be a parent:
I think girl
Oh, regardless of the sex of the child – have you decided what to do with the placenta?
ie: eat it, bury it next to a tree, cremate it, etc
in any event, you might want to make sure the hospital doesn’t harvest it. they’re kind of sketchy about that stuff – forgoing usual informed consent and tossing a line in the middle of dozens of pages that says they harvest it for whatever purposes (which are just about never academic , and often have to deal with cosmetics and private research )
This is going to possibly open up a can of Internet worms, but your first reason, the bit about not liking it as much, is one of the reasons I want to know the sex sooner rather than later.
It’s like this, I would hate to get attached to one, firmly believing that I am having a boy and then find that when that day comes for me to meet him, it’s actually a girl. Now, I know that this is totally absurd, of course you’re going to love it no matter what the sex, but if I were to feel even an ounce of disappointment, and chances are you would, I would have that looming over my head each time I thought I wasn’t a good enough parent to her. I would think, (because I was raised a catholic girl, or maybe I’m just a guilty, selfish freak) “This is because I wanted you to be a boy. It’s my fault.”
Wow, my comment is written with some of the best grammar to date.
We’re going to eat the placenta. We’re taking it to one of those korean bbq joints and having a big ol’ placenta eating party. You are all welcome.
Aren’t those tests still often wrong ? Won’t ‘finding out the sex’ possibly put you in the situation to get a bigger dissapointment ?
I’m glad I don’t have to go through this myself.
You might look into cord blood recovery. The blood that remains in the placenta and umbilical cord is rich in your child’s stem cells and could prove to be an excellent source of 100% compatible material should your child need a marrow transplant or some other serious treatment.
We used these guys to store our daughter’s cord blood. We were too poor to harvest the boys’ blood.
The ultrasound is pretty accurate and a good ultrasound technician can clearly discern both male and female sex organs. Modern ultrasound can detect all sorts of very nuanced abnormalities in face and heart valves. Genitals are pretty straightforward to identify. We clearly saw the markers that indicated that Pippy was going to be a girl.
BOY!
Wait a minute. I thought you were totally having a boy! Now I have to hold off on any onesie-customizing, because if it’s a girl, the onesie will have to say “Pee-pee free and proud to be!” I vote boy, just because I like “Vag free” better.
The cord blood recovery looks great
Toby & Michele, if I were your child I would want you to get that for me. I’m just saying…
It’s funny because I didn’t want to know the sex of my baby precisely because I would have gotten attached to the boy or girl inside me and spent 6 months or so thinking – overthinking – and letting my imagination run wild on what my boy/girl would be like – in terms of gender-specific traits – and how I would interact with my boy/girl. (not sure if this makes sense)
And I am sure you will or would not feel any disappointment. You will think your baby is the best and most beautiful baby in the world (like any new mom) and is exactly what you wanted.
Boy – Congrats!!!
Girl.
And have placenta hot pot.
What difference does it make?
Boy.
So did you find out?
Charlie, i don’t find out until Monday.
duh … i thought yesterday WAS monday.
I’m gonna have to go with a boy…. course, I might be wrong. :)
a boy that bakes or a girl that plays electric guitar. or both!
boy
Boy.
A girl who can effortlessly repair Volvo 164e’s :D
Am I too late to play?
I say: BOY!
Boy
Hey, why do you get so mad about lurkers?
I think there is a 50% chance you are having a girl. And I’m always wrong at guessing this, so you’re probably having a boy.
I run a website, Babes in Blogland, that lists ttc, expecting, and parenting bloggers to help us all find one another. I’ve added your site to the blogroll. If you need me to correct any information or if you would like for me to remove the link, please let me know.
Thank you and congratulations.
I want a girl
