Site Stuff.

Alright, Internet, if that is your real name. It’s been a little over a week since we moved from Typo to Mephisto, and I’m curious as to whether or not there have been any problems since that switch took place. I know there was a commenting issue, sorry about that. I think it’s been fixed. And today I noticed that the banner wasn’t correct. I also noticed that some of the permalinks didn’t move over correctly so there were many dead links, which I am currently trying to find on my own. I guess what I really want to know is if anyone has run into any problems so I can make Tobyjoe fix them all.

Are RSS feeds working? Are links? Are comments? Does anyone care anymore anyway?

If you’re afraid of leaving comments, as I know some of you weird lurkers are, feel free to email me at problems @ mihow dot com. I’m totally open to suggestions as well especially if you’re in favor of my stinkin’ ass shuttin’ the hell up already. Now is the time to complain, bitch, moan, call someone a cracker ass SOB, confess to me that your boyfriend smells like sausage, whatever you want.

Edited to add: Thank you all for the comments and email. We’ll work on the changes requested.

  1. RSS feeds haven’t been working for me for about a week – but just now I re-subscribed to the new feed link and my RSS inbox is full of mihow.com goodness!

PS – do you like Mephisto? I am half-tempted to make the jump.

    PPS – happy belated birthday!

  2. Robyn, Mephisto is SO much nicer than Typo, which I did like, but still. There are a few issues i have with it, mainly the fact way you save and/or publish stories. It’s confusing at first. Hell, it’s still confusing for me.

I also don’t like that they don’t have an RSS feed for comments or recent activity. But I’ll manage. The interface is so much easier to use for the most part and you can upload pictures straight through the browser (no more opening Transmit, etc). I like that.

You know, there are like 100 other things I still haven’t learned that TJ is about to teach me. When that happens you better believe I’ll write some long diatribe about it. ;]

Also, the best part about the move is that we got Mint for stats. (It runs 30 bucks). Totally worth it. I freaking love it. It’s a bit of an eye-opener, however. I’ll write more about Mint as well.

I was afraid of the whole RSS thing. I knew that would happen. That might be why my traffic has dipped substantially over the past week. OR maybe that’s because I’m a pregnant bore.

  3. You sold me at “no more opening transmit”. Yay!

I love that you are talking about being pregnant here. What better place? Bore, shmore. Babies are awesome!

  4. That’s another question I have, how to do folks surf? All RSS? Visit some, RSS the others? What type of feeds do you use? I use whatever comes with Firefox and whatever Tobyjoe tells me to use (because he controls me, my sweet little pugboy.)

Yeah, I really disliked having to open Transmit every time I needed to upload a picture. I also don’t like relying on Flickr because if it goes down, you have all these red x’s (or whatever the equivalent is.) Although, I have linked directly to flickr before out of laziness. Sometimes, they go down for maintenance and that bugs me.

So, yeah, it’s nice to upload directly. Now, if only there was a way to resize it that way too. That way I wouldn’t have to open Photoshop or Bibble. ;]

  5. I read via RSS (Bloglines), which has been working fine for me all week. Sometimes a post will reappear as “new” a few times, but that happened before, too.

  10. The only thing I’ve noticed izzat this site used to remember my name in the “leave a reply” box, and it doesn’t do that anymore. Onna iMac G5 w/ Tiger surfin’ via Safari, if any of that helps. Oh wait….tien’s already noted this….nevermind…..

  12. It works fine, it’s just aggressively cached. I’m gonna lower the TTL on it so it’s updated more frequently.

  15. Yeah, sorry about that guys. Tobyjoe just set the link up to redirect. I had a feeling that was why my traffic dropped so much over the past two weeks.

Thanks for letting me know, Chandler.
