South Beach Diet Update

I have lost 16 pounds in a little over two months. I hit my first goal in weight loss about a week ago and even though I promised myself a smorgasbord of fatty foods and treats once doing so, I can’t seem to bring myself to do it. Maybe upon completing my final goal. Who knows. Technically, I have 9 more pounds I’d like to lose. But I’d be happy with four.

Seriously, the South Beach Diet works. I am living proof of the fact that it isn’t hard, either.

  1. I so wish I could have stuck to that diet. I need to lose at least 15 pounds. I just could not get though the first two weeks. I get tempted and want to try it again, but my boyfriend gets mad at me because I became obsessed about what I couldn’t eat and what I could. I would stare at other people’s (including my boyfriend’s) food while at restaurants. I made life hard with that diet. But it does work though (my mom did it and now you).

  2. the first two weeks were rough, I won’t deny. Regarding the boyfriend thing, yeah. That’s really hard. This time, the reason I had a successful time with it (i failed twice before on this diet) was because Toby joined me. If he hadn’t, I am not sure I could have done it. Solidarity. :] After the first two weeks, and after you see a change, it becomes addictive, too. But it was slow moving. Now, I can’t imagine eating the way I did before. Weird how that happens.

  3. Yeah, and there is no way my boyfriend will do it with me. He doesn’t need to lose any weight (friggin’ stick boy) Even if I tried again, I know I would inevitably fail because of the fact that his parents are CONSTANTLY giving us food. JUNK FOOD that we sometimes eat and sometimes just give away because its SO bad (Pop, cookies, pierogis, capris suns, whatever). We told them to stop but it keeps coming. (someone give me an address to send the stuff to and we will) If the house was empty with only healthy stuff and a boyfriend who would join me on the diet then I’d be fine. Its just hard avoiding things when they are in front of you constantly.

  4. I had a lot of luck on it last year and lost probably 15 total pounds. Then I gained it all back (grrrr…) so I just went on it again. I am near the end of the third week. I lost maybe a pound in the first two weeks (and I didnt even cheat! Well, one night i drank a bunch of beer, and then the next day was required to eat Chinese food to recover, but that was it!) So now Im a bit frustrated. I do like the diet and know what you are saying about the addictive part, and the thing is I feel skinnier, but the scale says no. I dont get it.

  5. Stay out of restaurants and away from booze the first month.

  6. There were times in the beginning that happen to me. Personally, I think that the bigger weight loss for those who are NOT obese doesn’t start until well into phase 2. The first two weeks didn’t show me much change at all. The second two proved more rewarding and the second month was great. I don’t think I lost but 4 pounds in the first three weeks when i was on this. And I DID cheat (at least as far as the win consumption was concerned.) Keep at it. It will pay off. This diet was initially designed for those who are dangerously large and diabetic. It works for those of us who want to lose only 20 pounds, too. But I’m not convinced it works in the same way the book claims it will.

  7. That is good to hear. (Wow! There are reasons to comment! im kidding – ive been lurking a lot lately, I know)
Anyway, I was thinking about how the diet works too, and I think you are right. If one were really overweight and had bad habits to begin with (which I didnt, really) then this diet is so dramatic that you are bound to loose a ton of weight in the beginning. I just want to loose is ~15 lbs. too, and I think that last little bit is the hardest to loose, so the process will be a lot more drawn out. I am going to stick it out, because I really dont mind the diet at all since its not at all radical and very common sense. Im glad it worked so well for you, and two months is not a long time!

  8. I’d like to add one more thing. The whole not nibbling thing really helps. I no longer eat the bread at the table, the chips and salsa, the crackers. I just wait for the meal. Similarly, we split dessert when we do order it. That helps, too. Sometimes, the little things really do add up. :/
