Even if Enland doesn’t win The World Cup, at least they will hold this title. Like I needed another reason to love and admire the Brits.

What’s your beer of choice? Lately, I have been enjoying Paulaner Hefeweizen or any cool, cloudy wheat beer. But if I had to choose one, I’d still pick the thick, velvety Guiness.
hefeweizen ist goooood! actually, sarah’s maid of honor brought six bottles over from Germany for us when she came for the wedding. with 2 engraved hefeweisen glasses. and some gummibarchen. it was our wedding gift. and we still have one Paulaner left in the fridge. while we were in Germany this past time, anytime I saw a corner with the Lischer sign on it I was there.

Back when I was able to drink beer…Bass was my favorite…but then there is always a good belgian beer to drink when it is hot, like Hoegaarden….yum!

I’m pretty pedestrian in my beer tastes. I like pilsners, and I’m not particularly fond of dark beers, although I have had plenty of Guiness in my time (it’s de rigueur for rugby players). If given a choice, I usually drink Heineken or Corona.
If I’m drinking beer with food, I go lighter. If I’m drinking beer with friends (and maybe snacking), then I am willing to go darker.

I am not sure if they still drink it room temperature in Ireland, but here in London the Guinness is definitely served cold. In fact, a few years ago they started selling draught “Extra Cold” Guinness. I guess it’s a marketing ploy to encourage people to continue drinking it throughout the summer. Works on me – I had quite a few during the big game last weekend!

I believe it is Kochs’s Golden Anniversary. We have it up here in Buffalo. We also had the famous Genesee Cream Ale (sold in 16 ounce bottles, or “pounders” as we called them).
When I started graduate work up here in 1989 a group of students met weekly for a Sunday pot luck dinner. I always brought a six pack of Kochs, a pack of Marlboro lights, and a bag of chips. This was before I learned how to cook.

I have been drinking a lot of Pabst lately. It seems to be the “slumming it” beer of choice in Savannah – which I resisted until recently. How can you beat $6.99 for a 12 pack? Plus it makes me think of Blue Velvet and Dennis Hopper. “Fuck Heineken! Pabst Blue Ribbon!”
I usually order Rolling Rock, Harp, or Boddingtons. But if I was in PA, I’d be drinking Yuengling.

I’m a big fan of Fransenskaner (not a fan of spelling obviously)Hefeweizen. A cold glass on a warm day with a slice of orange. That is the best.
Guinness is my favorite all around beer. For all of you men out there, medical research shows that it is good for the prostate to drink a stout beer when you eat red meat. Gotta love that excuse for a beer with your Big Mac.
When I lived in Seattle I drank a lot of Red Hook, especially the Blonde and Copper, which I haven’t found elsewhere. Also drank my share of Pyramid’s Broken Rake, which I believe they canned (as in got rid of, not served in). Orchard Street Brewery makes a great seasonal call Jingle Ale that is pure Christmas in a bottle.
Speaking of Christmas beer, do yourself a favor this holiday season and track down some Anchor Steam Christmas. You will be glad you did.

Greg – I always thought you may actually be my brother instead of Rob, until you said iron city with an exclamation point. Sad to say, it’s over between us.
So what time are we going to Nevada Smith’s this Saturday? Though a pure-blood Englishman told me to go to Red somethingorother on Bleeker Street. Also popular among the Three Lions supporters, but not ridiculously overcrowded – and they have Guinesss on special!!!!

bkgunner you should be happy to hear, iron city is soon to be a thing of the past. at least that’s the rumor.
…by the way, i, even though i’m a yinzer at heart, was never fond of iron city…..did you know they make it from the pee of steeler fans? yep, it’s true….they pump it straight from heinz field bathrooms directly to the brewery and bottle it luke warm and probably sell it straight back to the poor bastard who just emptied his blatter!!!
rolling rock tried to steal their technique but since they only have the steeler’s training camp up there in latrobe, their beer is brewed with steeler-only pee, hence the better/more refined/less watered down flavor.(no offense to rolling rock lovers)

Nora! You live in Savannah? I try to go every year for the rugby tournament over St Patty’s day.
Maybe fans of mihow can meet in Savannah next year. My team always seems to find itself at Daiquiri Island on Albermarle on Friday afternoons before hitting River St at night.

I have been trying to get friends to visit for the 2 1/2 years I’ve lived here! I went to the rugby tourney the first year I was here and really enjoyed it.
March is the nicest month of the year here anyway – even w/o St. Patty’s Day. Savannah has few redeeming qualities (I say this as a Yank and a homesick P’burger), and March is one of them.
I haven’t ventured to Daiquiri Island yet since it involves driving – and when you live in downtown Savannah and can get anywhere on foot, driving just seems like too much work. There are any number of Irish bars and now a new Scottish bar called Molly McPherson’s – which I love.
