Turn and Face the Strange

We’re in the process of moving (and changing) mihow.com. You may have noticed. During the transition, the last two days are no longer with us (awwww). Sometimes, that happens. (They still exist, so if you would like to see them for whatever reason, let me know.)

Anyway, if there is anything buggy or weird about the site (especially for you PC users) please let us know; you may email me at mihow at mihow.com. If you hate the new site, be constructive with your hate. Perhaps, in time, it will grow on you. If you like it, that works as well.

Finally, the banner may change a bit in time. We’ll see.

  2. What is that big, tall, ugly blocky building just south of the Citi building supposed to be?!

(Honestly, I kind of like Trump’s residential building. I used to have class right next door and always looked forward to seeing it. Glad to see it get recognition! Oh, on cloudy days, the top floors would disappear. You can live above the freaking clouds!!!! How cool is that?!)

  3. You’re hilarious. Trump did kind of screw up our skyline didn’t he? Let’s hope he does better with Dubai.

  4. Trump is coming to Dubai? Wowzer, I am so out of the loop.

I like the new design. Is that mihow supposed to look like doggy do with odours coming off it and flies swarming or have I been around 6 year old potty humour too long?

  6. Oh, also Meghan, last I read, Mr. Trump was designing the tallest building in the world over in your parts. That fell apart at one time but I’m pretty sure the concept is back.

  7. Love the design. Poop splatter!!

What is typo? Did Toby give up writing blog software, or is this an evolution of his work?

  8. Typo is the leading Rails blog package. It’s an open-source thing, and I’ve decided to port some of the features I like (spam greylisting, comment notification) over to the Typo project. I got kinda sick of reinventing the wheel, and I really wanted to move mihow.com over to a Rails base like most of our other sites to keep organization, deployment, and testing consistent across all of them.

Now I can all but kill PHP and Apache on our server!

  10. Well, we live in a neighborhood in Brooklyn that always seems to smell like shit. I figured it’d paint a real picture.

  11. I hate change, but I do like the new look of this site.

I don’t really like that your name is like stinky poop…I like you too much to see your name like that!

  12. Okay, I LOVE that when I hit ‘submit’, my comment floated up into line with the others…it just looked really cool. Although, I seem to be numbered at 1. instead of 11. Let’s see what number this becomes.
I promise I’ll stop after this.

  13. Well, you are number 1, indeed. But you’re number 11 here. This one goes to 11.

    You’re 11 AND 12. But you’re number 1 all the time.

I know. No one likes change. But, my goodness, I was getting so sick of my site having to look at it every day. This way, I feel like I’m using someone else’s. :]

We’ll get used to it. I hope.

  14. The Trumpster was mentioned in the press today after reading your site. But it said he was visiting and they expect him to be jealous of the construction site which will one day be the tallest building in the world for the brief period of time until someone equally insane builds a taller one. So I take it we won’t have a Burj Al Trump.

Hey, how’s the islands of the world coming along?

  16. Not sure the …but they are now planning an undersea world, dubailand (to rival disneyland) and many more crazy ecological diisasters. The sun’s rays are frying the brains here.

  17. I heard about that one! It has a rotating ski slope in it! Only it’s not really a ski slope, it’s a synthetic one. It’s weird whatever it is.

  18. There’s a quote in crain’s nybusiness from a few days ago – the guy who runs Apartments&Lofts is really excited about how WB & Greenpoint is going to look like battery park city and the trump towers in 5years.

He’s a fucking assbag. Once tried to set me up with a dilapadted 350sq ft apartment that ended up being condemmned a few months later for $1800/month.

  19. btw – love how things are working with the new site, but I HATE the live effects / live search. Come on now, they’re a little more than ridiculous.

  20. You HATE them or you hate them?

I don’t mind them, quite honestly. There are so many other things we have to fix first, that will come last, if ever.

YOu comment confuses me because you say you like how things are working (but you do not LOVE the way things are working) and you HATE the live effects? What else is there with the site? Everything else is very much the same. I mean, except for the design.

  21. What’s wrong with live search? Real points – no fluff.
