My Cats Are Totally Punk Rock.

They are called Soft Paws and the first time I saw them I almost went apeshit on the person whose cat it was because I thought she painted her cat’s toenails. Ummm, no. They are glued on, Lee Press-on style. (The glue smells the same and everything. Not that I would have any way of knowing as much…) They supposedly stay on for three months. (That was never true for the human ones. We’ll see.) Schmitty has already pulled off two. Tucker doesn’t seem to care one bit.

Tucker’s are blue.

Schmitty’s are pink.

I’m still not sure about them. I put up some resistance at first. But the Toby Joe really wants to save our new rugs and couches and whatnot. I agreed to give it a shot.

We didn't DARE mess with Pookum. She'd kill us in our sleep. But she usually only scratches in the designated scratching areas. We'll see how it goes.

  1. I always thought they were clear. I guess this way you’ll know when they’ve fallen off (or have been pulled off).

  2. There are clear ones, but that’s like buying gold fronts and not spelling your name in diamonds across the incisors.

  3. Your cats kind of look like they stepped on candies.

  4. wow. I’ve never seen these. I’m impressed they didn’t rip them off right away.

Tucker looks like Transformer-era Lou Reed. glam-y.

Schmitty just looks like a big nancy.

  5. my boys are pretty good at NOT using anything but their scratching posts – but Otis occasionally attacks an ottoman or a throw blanket – he likes to grab them with his claws and hang – no scratching action, but he hangs and digs his claws in. And Owen, I only worry about his RUNNING around – he can nearly shred my bedspread as he rips through the room and runs out across the bed as he goes. Luckily, they both let me trim their claws weekly. mmkay – I’ll stop here. I could go on and on re: the care of my kitties claws. No, really. I’ll stop. BUT I’m taking note of the soft paws – next year we may be buying new couches.

  7. So far, Tucker seems totally fine. I feel badly for them, but I feel badly for them if someone looks at them in a mean way. So I am not a good judge of the Soft Paws. Ask TJ what he things. Schmitty doesn’t like them one bit. I think he’s embarrassed.

  8. we use those! i love them. sophie doesnt need them becaues she only scratches the post, but the kitten needs them. she’d run right up the curtains if we let her. they havent been lasting very long, and that is my only complaint, but since her claws are still soo teeny im hoping once they are full grown they will stick better. we’ve been using the clear, but i think tobyjoe does have a point…

  9. No problems, Claudia? For some reason I had it in my head that these would kill them instantly. haha

  11. the kitten doesnt seem to have any problem with them, as long as she is asleep when we put them on. sometimes they fall off (or she pulls them off) I bought them online for a lot cheaper than they sell them at the vet, if I can find the link ill send it to you. i want to get the colored ones, they are pretty badass.

  14. I bought those for my cat – as she is a SUPER SCRATCHER (I think she invented it…). I thought they were a great idea but I couldn’t hold her still to get them on her nails. So now I have a whole box sitting in my medicine cabinet collecting dust.

Glad you were able to get them on your cats.
