A working Saturday

Should anyone have the unfortunate deal of having to sit in front of a computer today, I’d like to ask a few questions.

1). What community sites (if any) do you frequent?

2). If you visit community sites, how often do you comment? Are you afraid of doing so?

3). Do you use bookmarks?

4). Do you have a tendency to frequent sites that consistently irk you?

5). How many sites do you visit a day? (An estimate will do.)

That’s all. If you’re out there, kindly drop a line (mihow at mihow dot com) or leave a comment if you wish.

  1. 1). What community sites (if any) do you frequent? Many. Mostly blog sites, some photography boards and parenting sites. Lots of genealogy stuff as well.

2). If you visit community sites, how often do you comment? Are you afraid of doing so? It depends on how long I’ve been going to the site. I lurk for a long time to get the feel of a site before commenting.

3). Do you use bookmarks? Yep. Open in tabs in Firefox is my best friend.

4). Do you have a tendency to frequent sites that consistently irk you? Absolutely—there are a few that I will read. I call these my train wreck sites. You hate to watch but can’t look away. I never comment on these sites and after a while the irritation gets to me so I take them out of my bookmarks.

5). How many sites do you visit a day? (An estimate will do.) Around 50.

  2. Hi chicka, it sucks that you have to work today. You have Monday off, yes? If not I shall be up there soon with my can of ass whip.

I visit all of the blogs on my blogroll thingy, on a daily basis, plus everyone who comments. I guess that’s about 35 sites. I’m not sure about community sites, as I am a goooober.

  3. I was working today as well. But I’ll answer your questions super quick.

    1. community sites. mainly blogs and on occassion a photography message board.
    2. I will leave a comment if I’ve lurked long enough or feel strongly enough to say something positive (I’m so not into leaving grumpy comments).
    3. yes yes yes. I open them all in tabs in safari.
    4. If it irks me, it’s not in my bookmarks… that’s not saying I don’t visit them from time to time.. I just refuse to bookmark them.
    5. 50-ish. Eeep.

  7. By ‘community’, I assume you mean group blogs or discussion forums? I visit Gothamist & DCist week-daily, and Reason Mag’s Hit & Run periodically. I can’t remember offhand if I read other group blogs but I know that I pretty much never comment . I read two Yahoo groups for film and music discussion but I only infrequently post to them.
I use Safari’s bookmark bar at home for stuff like Netflix, NY Times, etc (as if it’s difficult to remember and type their respectve URLs) and at work I bookmark business & data sites. I use my sidebar list on my blog to keep track of my blog reads. I’d say I go through about 1/2 or more of my sidebar regularly—if not daily then every 2-3 days. I do not use any kind of aggregator service.
I have no idea how many sites I visit daily, but it’s probably anywhere from 20-50 depending on how bored I am.
This is probably more information than you needed.

  8. No way, Missy. That’s exactly what I was/am looking for. No such thing on too much information. Thank you, everyone. I will buy you presents.

  10. Yeah. :/ I am not sure where to put that sucker. I might add it later. We’ll see. This was a sudden move—sort of like rearranging one’s furniture when one gets bored. :]

  12. I don’t read many community sites anymore-when I’m at work, if I have a chance to look around I’ll visit here, Fark, Reason (like Missy) and a couple other places. I have all of these sites bookmarked on my pc’s at home and work, and I also have them bookmarked on my Yahoo! homepage. I rarely visit sites that irk me, but there are a couple that are like picking scabs-I return to them even though I’m better off leaving them alone.
