Xantastic!

For the low, low price of $2.43, now if we go down in a blazing heap of metal somewhere over the midwest, I will no longer care as much. I will no longer sob uncontrollably if we hit turbulence. And there’s a good chance I might even sit through some god awful Disney film. And remember it.

I just got back from the doctor. All I had to say were a few sentences using the words “flying, irrational behavior, September 11th, New York, and please” and he wrote me a prescription “to take the edge off”. He was nice about it too, even offered up some sympathy. I hope this works.

Today, I plan on calling San Francisco apartment places, applying to some more jobs, scheduling vet appointments to find drugs for my felines as well, and mapping out our trip. I have to call around and see if we can get dialup accounts started in order to document the trip and ensure we have cable/internet once we’re in San Fran. I’m not even sure who covers the entire nation. Perhaps Earthlink?

We’ll see if I get any of the above completed today. I’d be willing to vote against myself right now.

  1. NetZero might have nationwide coverage. Cheap too ($9.99 for “platinum” service, and they may still offer free service, too).

    I hate Earthlink.

  2. NetZero, you say? I’ll call ‘em first.

I hate Verizon. We could start a club.

  5. Holy sweet shit, that’s the funniest thing I have seen online in a long long time. “I can play checkers with 9 year olds who say ‘Eat My Shit, Asshole’ “

I’m still laughing. Thanks for that.

  6. And I’m sure you’ve seen this clip about working with a mac.

  7. This isn’t because I’m partisan, but that Apple thing is just so wildly incorrect. I’m guessing he was using OS 9, which really was a giant turd. But then why clone an ad for OS X to bring up OS 9 issues when the point of the switch campaign was to focus on how the entire Macintosh system was rewritten from scratch and is now considered the most stable desktop system in existence? I dunno. I give it a thumbs down.

  11. heh … I was a little hesitant to post that link. I’m aware of your devotion to macs (and I admire it—I am sure the character Pi would be a mac user if Martell had included it in “Life of Pi”). I figured I was safe, though, because it is so obviously satire/parody.

Fact of the matter is, I feel self-conscious about viewing your blog with Internet Explorer—it’s kinda like bringing a veal dish to a potluck dinner at your house. Maybe I should go download Mozilla?

  12. He’s combining operating systems. That’s pretty clear. His complaints are mainly os9 related but then he refers to the doc. He’s all over the place.

My Apple reminds me of my Volvo. I love it for all the same reasons.

  13. ha ha ha! GotJesus. Funny, but no worries. Up until I started working from home I used nothing but IE. I couldn’t care less what people prefer. I only get worked up when people start to bash the other side. Then I’m all like “HEY YO! DON’T BE TALKIN NO SHIT!”

The world would be so boring if everything boiled down to an agreeable one.

  15. I’d prefer to be running Linux on the desktop, actually.

As for why Flash sucks on OS X, well—ask Macromedia. The authoring environment is highly unstable and full of GUI bugs. The player runs slowly. They always seem to care more for their idea of innovation over releasing stable, efficient software or repairing bugs. Apple support is just not high on the priority list, it seems.

Anyway, I’m not really a devotee – there ARE things for which to criticize OS X extensively (networking problems in particular) but that guy missed them all, instead ranting about non-existent problems using incorrect jargon. Not a big deal. Just my lil critique :)

  16. tj – that’s the common gripe here among the team is how can flash dog on os x but run smooth as a finger roll on win. it always starts off the mac/win war here. I sit back and admire the furor. everyone always points back to the player & it’s incompatibility w the mac graphics engine (since flash video runs just as smooth on both).

mihow – funny, i get all defensive whenever any side bashes the other: man on win, win on mac. i fight on both sides, always for the underdog.
