Weekend of fun

Well, I had a great weekend. I didn’t want it to end. In the midst of all the anti-war protesters, Nico came on down via Amtrak to hang out and see stuff about things. We visited the National Zoo on Saturday. And, though I love the little goobers running around those parts, it was sort of like going to a really hopping beach off season. So depressing. Some of the sections were emptied of water and animals. Some were just freakishly empty, like the prairie dog exhibit, where small children had their pictures taken with the sculpture next to the exhibit instead of an actual animal. It wasn’t what it once was. I’m hoping it’s because it’s still coldish. The gibbon exhibit was awesome. And the great apes, (of course). The giraffes were pretty cool and the orangoutangs were cool as well. We went to see the sloth but he wasn’t moving. :] I think he was tired.
After leaving the zoo, we headed downtown to the Hirshhorn Museum to see “Gerhard Richter: Forty Years of Painting” This exhibit was truly amazing. I plan on going again at some point, during my lunch break as it’s nearly right behind my office. Good times.

That night I had yet another sketchy Perry’s experience and I have made a silent vow to never return there again. The waitress lied to us after taking three hours to get Toby and Nico their sushi dishes. She didn’t even see the bottom of the menu. Because she didn’t see that we had ordereed another 30 dollars worth of sushi, she figured us for cheapys. So we waited forever and then finally asked her about it.

After realizing it was her mistake, she said, “It’s my first night. I am so sorry.”

Not true. No restaurant starts a new person on a busy Saturday. And she lied earlier about telling me about a certain wine which she believed was the best. Bah, I could go on and on about how little that place impresses me. It shocks me people spend so much money there and so much time and come out raving about it. Sometimes I think people think that if they don’t pay out the ass for food, they’re not eating good food. I’m done with that place. No more. :] And next time, we take Nico to Pasta Mia. Where we know we’ll wait hours for our food, but it will be worth it. Every penny.
But the weekend was great. Truly. Yesterday I put the new Zipcar Mini on hold and took Nico to the train station. The Mini is super duper. And now I am seriously considering buying one. I went grocery shopping at Whole Foods in my Mini like a good little yuppie and returned home to finish hours worth of freelance work.
And now I’m here for a 4-day week. YAYA!
Pictures in a few…

  2. Weird—-I went to see the Gerard Richter Exhibit at the MOMA last spring in NYC. It’s amazing that some of those paintings aren’t photographs. I have his one of the toliet paper roll in my bathroom.

  4. freakgirl, I asked off a while ago to attend an Oscar party at Penn State. Friends of mine have one every year and usually it’s a pretty good time.

  5. I found it at the MOMA in the gift shop, I think? It was just a 8×10 postcard size print. I also bought one of the candle (which totally looks like a photo) and the one of the family on the boat—that painting is especially amazing to me because it’s all swirls of the brush. That guy was frickin’ amazing. I didn’t know anything about him until I went, but my friends really wanted to see the exhibit.

  6. I’m having some friends over for an Oscar party as well. We’ve got trophies and everything. Of course, if we go to war, they might cancel the festivities. Which would make me sad.

And here are some Richter prints/posters, although it is hard to determine the quality.

  14. I attributed the monkey craze to this widely swaped video. Sorry if you’ve seen it 100 times. It still makes me laugh and that’s why people love monkeys – they’re dumb like us. but cuter.
