Glass Blowling class

For a very long time I have wanted to take a glass-blowing class. And, for one reason or another, I have been unable to do so. Penn State knew of no such thing. And in DC I had to know someone or something. The other day Toby and I were riding and he spotted a sign advertising a class in Williamsburg. I want to do it. I do. I do. But it’s nearly 600 bucks. So I am not sure. Should I do it? AURGH! Money sucks. (And no, I do not plan on making drug paraphernalia).

  1. $600? Good christ. If you have it, go for it.

Have you ever taken pottery? I haven’t. But I’m pretty sure I’d suck at it.

  2. There is a theme park here in Branson called
http://silverdollarcity.com/ where everyone dresses like blacksmiths and all these people have this special “craft” that they do and people stand in crowds and watch them.
One of them is a glassblower. And if you apply to work there, they will teach you for free, if you don’t mind having an audience, and then you can sell everything you make for $60 in the giftshop…..if you dont mind moving to Branson, that is.
Which I don’t recommend, so I don’t know why I bring it up.

But anyway, yes, glass blowing is awesome.
Not that I have done it, but I’ve watched it.
    DO it!

  3. I don’t have the money. Well, not really. NO. But doesn’t one always have the money? It’s just a matter of shifting things. Ho-hum.

  4. Branson? Home of the “talented” Jon Brennan, country singer?

  5. Glass blowing is so cool, but the whole fire thing scares me off.

  6. THE Jon Brennan from Real World LA fame?
Or am I wrong? Holy shit!

Anyway, take the class if you think it’ll make you money someday. Screw the pure enjoyment factor. :) Depending on what your priorities are at the moment, either save or wait. And are you investing into your 401K? Am I sounding like someone you want to beat up yet?

  7. No. I won’t/don’t want to beat you up. :)

I have one with Penn State. But haven’t added anything to it in years. ahhh well. I suck.

This company doesn’t offer it. (erased)

I don’t see how I will one day make money unless I do start making bongs and bowls. I guess I could sell them. But really, it will just be a big tease as i can’t see myself ever finding the facilities again. BAH, I don’t know. I’ll probably do it. Maybe I’ll use the freelance dollars I make from this logo.

    Thinking out loud here.

  8. I’ve been dying to take a pottery class for years and years, since I was a little kid and first touched clay. I never have. Now I can’t afford it, but I still plan to. That is one good thing about living in a place like Toronto…there will always be a pottery class somewhere I can take.

Glass blowing is very fascinating, and while I’m not scared of the fire like Debra, I am terrified I’m going to burn myself by forgetting everything is hot and grabbing it with my bare hands.

If you have the time, take the class. In my experience, it’s easier to budget the money than to come up with the time. So make some plans about eating cheaper for a while and stuff like that, and go for it. You won’t regret it, I’m sure of it. And I would LOVE to see the pictures of what you make!

  9. Fuck it, I think I’ll do it.

And I forgot to mention, yes, I did indeed take pottery. I did the wheel thing. So much fun. So therapeutic. Best class/hobby I ever took up. I loved being covered in clay and just sitting there using my hands. And it was always best when Patrick Swayze would come from behind and cover my hands with his. And we would sing. And then make out.

    I loved the wheel.

  10. You are hilarious.

Figure it’ll only get more expensive as we get older, so if you do it now, it’ll seem less expensive in 2035. By then, we’ll say, “Remember when you took that glass blowing class and it was ONLY $600?!” Ha ha ha. Just like I do now w/ my parents’ tuition costs from when they were in college.

    Go for it.

  12. I called and left a message. I’ll give them my CCard number and be done with it. It’s only 250 right now. Then I own another 300 later. The class is 550 and all materials are included. I wonder if that means I can come after hours as well. Hmmmmmm

  13. Yay! If I can blow that kind of money on acting classes, then you should do this. And at leats you’ll have something tangible to show for it.

  14. You dropped $250 on a drug paraphernalia class? With no plans to make some bucks off of it?! What are you nuts?

Don’t feel so bad Mihow. Yesterday I dropped $440 on my “I have a Japanese girlfriend (or want one)” class.
