Covers that are better than the original. GO!!!
“Sweet Child of Mine” by Luna
“I will survive” by Cake. (Yes, I am a dork and I do like that version better).
“How soon is now” by Quicksand. (Though I do like the Smiths version as well, just not as much).

this would be so much easier if it was “covers that suck the life out of the original song”…
“i’m not your stepping stone” by the sex pistols
“go your own way” by seaweed
“loose” by the birthday party
“calling occupants of interplanetary craft” by the carpenters
“every day is halloween” by TRS-80
“pigs on the wing” by helios creed

But I agree with sis, the Luna version of Sweet Child o’ mine makes you realize what an amazing song that was.

Mark Kozelek (Red house painters) can make anything sounds lovely. He’s the cleaner in music. He’s pretty. I like his toys.

And don’t leave out the album by Richard Cheese.
His lounge cover of Rape Me by Nirvana is just brilliant.

Army of me. I love that phrase. I do. Almost as much as I love the phrase, “Dog and Pony show.”
“follow you, follow me” Red house painters. (Mark Kozelek again).

last year (2001) i was part of a group that was part of the “may 1st reboot” and we put a copy of that song on the blackout page that we were forced to put up. so it looked exactly the same but played “manna manna” in the background…
i thought it was funny…

that song is a bit of pure joy. Pure. Joy. As a matter of fact, I think they should blast it, full volume across Afghanistan by way of and ice cream truck. Sub-woofer style. Screw the bombs and all the angry people, screw Bin Laden and his creepy followers, once they here “manna manna” they’ll tickle one another and the only thing blasting off will be the sound of their Rocket Pops opening. Yeah.
