Washington, D.C.

Tobyjoe and I are heading down to Washington next weekend to visit friends. I just started looking into the logistics. What we’re trying to figure out, however, is if we should get a room for one night (the other night we’d stay with Soung and David) at the Mayflower. I haven’t ever been there before. I used to work around the corner from it but never went inside. All I know is that it’s fancypants.

The rooms are from $219.00 a night all the way up to $432.00. Obviously, we don’t have that much money. But I am left wondering if it’s worth 200 bucks assuming we look at it like a miniature vacation.

Judging by our history, we’ll end up spending most of our time in a basement called Bedrock.

  1. We’re taking the kids down on 4/13 and are staying until Easter Sunday. Owen has been positively quivering with anticipation. He knows all of the presidents’ names (in order) and the cause of each one’s death. His birthday is Good Friday this year (4/14), so it’s a special treat for him. (Coincidentally, 4/14 is the date of Lincoln’s assassination).

  2. The whole Chambers crew is going to be flying back to DC at the end of May for a wedding. We are keeping our fingers crossed for some warm weather….

  3. And Owen is how old, Charlie? That’s freaking nuts! I can barely name 10 presidents. OK, well, maybe more than ten, but I have no idea what order they came.

I think that lesson needs to become a drinking game.

  4. a_ what about another hotel
b_ what about another booking method? check out travelocity/hotels/etc. they often have crazy deals. when i went to montreal in the fall, i made a reservation on hilton.com through them for like $400/night. then i went on travelocity, did a screencap of a deal where it was 200/night, and mailed it to hilton’s ‘price match’ customer service address. then they did a match + 15% off, so i got the room for 170/night.

  5. woops, hit enter too soon.

i was about to say to ask Otto if he can set you up. NG folks get a discount at the Mayflower, from what i remember. Might be worth a try. Have fun, i have been thinking about DC friends lately myself.

  6. Wow, Mia, that would rule. At the rate they gave, I will probably intrude on Soung and David the entire weekend. :]

  7. Check out the Tabard Inn, the rooms there are lovely and (I think) cheaper than the Mayflower. They also have a great restaurant and bar: http://www.tabardinn.com/home.htm. I was just in DC last weekend and it was great to be back. It was so warm I even got to wear flip flops, huzzah!
