Tonight, I am finally going to take a look at a blue, 1975 Volvo for sale in our neighborhood. I have had my eye on this car for months now and much to my surprise the owner put it up for sale last week. It looks like this:
only it’s blue.
I always get nervous about spending money on things like this. I always chicken out. But the truth is, I have wanted another Volvo since the last one I owned was totaled (by another driver. I was nowhere near the car at the time). We’ll see. We’ll see.
My friend B-Girl once owned a 1968 Volvo 244 that I had the privelege of driving from Boston to Provincetown and back again on the same day. It was a sweet ride.

wow. A 68. That’s sweet. The only thing that wouuld make this car cooler is if it were born in 1974 like me.

actually it was a 144 and she was driving it in the late-mid-80’s w/ more than 100k on it.
It was rock solid dependable.

If he will have me and the thing doesn’t fall apart, I will buy it. I wish I knew of a mechanic open tonight. As it stands, I will have to beg him to wait so I can have it looked at, too. :/

All I can say is that next to the circles of hell reserved for landlords, lawyers, and insurance people is one for mechanics. When you buy an old used car you buy an ongoing maintenance responsibility and that really sucks. No matter how dependable an engine, chassis and drivetrain are, hoses, belts, brakes, and switches wear out.
