Mini Me

We are SERIOUSLY considering buying one of these.

Only a black one. And a five speed. Are we just suckers for all things cute and small? Does it come with Firewire?

  4. See, now here is one of those examples where Google ads don’t show up and instead I get the “flagged bad word” Public Service ad. What, in this post and its comments, is considered “bad”? It’s about a god damn car! If anyone likes their advertisements its a damn car manufacturer!

Not definite on the Fiewire but you can get the stereo option that has an Ipod docking cable in the glove compartment.

    Phat!

  6. FYI: they get terrible gas mileage.
I was surprised by this fact. They are so small! but made by GM so…

yeah, they’re BMW. GM owns the Hummer line. I want to get a hummer-styled mini and call it the H.25

  11. So does that mean they have good gas mileage after all? That IS so important. I have to admit.

  12. I take it all back. Mini was part of Rover (does GM own them now? some US auto company does) but the brands were split and BMW kept Mini but sold Rover… blah blah. Read more from Click and Clack:

Says gas mileage is good as well. I was obviously, completely misinformed. Sorry.

  13. MINI is owned by BMW, but it’s design team leader was american i think and it has a chrystler motor. the “S” is supercharded and uses the expensive gas and is tuned not for optimum gas mileage….but damnit, you can park them anywhere!

  19. 3.1415…(I used to know more of the sequence). Having it on your license plates is almost as good as having it tattooed.

I heard the other day that the movie was based on some documentary about someone , or something like that

There’s been a huge cross-polination of the auto industry that the old hierachy of Europe being better than Japan being better than American really doesn’t apply anymore.

VW may design their cars in Germany but manufacture most of the them (Jettas, Beetles, etc.) in Mexico. Saab has a model, 92-X, that is a straight Subaru Imprezza WRX wagon. Even the interior is practically the same. They just added a new front end and slapped the Saab logo here and there (it does make it look 10x better though).

The one concern I’ve heard on the Mini Cooper from a few different people has not been the gas mileage (it should still be in the mid to high 20’s in MPG, not a Pruis but still pretty decent) but the suspension. The base model rides pretty hard. I think upgrading to a better suspension and bigger tires or maybe to the Cooper-S (which maybe have the susp. & tire upgrade rolled in) alleviates that.
