New Low

I just purchased a jar of INSTANT coffee. And it’s raining and I suddenly feel like I’m in London.

We have no coffee maker and I refuse to buy one knowing one is on its way.

I also purchased apple cobbler fixins. Yum, cobbler. (I am trying to make this a lo cal kind of thing. So it might suck. We’ll see.)

  1. I keep instant on hand as well.. for emergencies. (Also, for mixing with hot chocolate or vanilla milkshakes). File under: Items I no longer feel shame about owning. Yes, there is a list.

  2. Lana, do you think a spoon full of Instant Coffee will add anything to my pie crust? Or have I lost my mind. I thought I learned to not “play around” when it comes to baking. Ah well.

  3. Coffee pie crust. Keep away from the kitchen. Just step back and keep away from the kitchen.

  4. I’m not sure about pie crust… it would depend on the filling. Though, I’d go to town with the oreo cookie crumb based desserts.

  5. Ah..apples. Cobbler. Right.

I’d do it! If only for an interesting blog experiment.

  6. Apparently, my mother is about to disown me. And I have Jon purchasing a second espresso machine to avoid EVER having to use instant coffee. Who would have thunk instant coffee could bring out such a reaction from people?

  8. Ok, I don’t want you to be disowned. I’ll take on the unholy marriage of pastry and coffee bean.

  9. In my big book of xmas cookies, there are many recipes that call for instant coffee, for that yummy mocha-ness. It’s ok!

  10. I made a muesli/whole wheat pie crust. (It’s not looking too pretty.) I just mixed the apples with cinnamon and nutmeg and three teaspoons of sugar in the raw (equalling 90 calories). I just spooned the apples into my shitass crust and dabbed three tablespoons of butter on top.

The pie (according to my calculations) in total, is about 700 calories. It’s gonna taste like cardboard, for sure. Wanna come over?

  11. Pie update: It’s actually quite good. But I wouldn’t call it a pie, per say. It’s nice knowing one can make something sweet and not have it lead to lard ass.
