Brooklyn Apartment Update

I’d like to sincerely thank everyone for the feedback yesterday on here and via email regarding our apartment search.

After a lot of talk and then a little pressure from one of the folks we seek to rent from, we have decided to go with the first apartment. We took the one a wee bit farther from the train, aka the cheaper one and the slightly larger one. While it’s not necessarily in the “hipper” part of town, we (or I, rather) were very nervous about what the owners had in mind for the store downstairs. I can’t imagine the idea of living above something potentially loud and stinky.

    They are going to put a vegetarian restaurant there thoat closes at 8:00pm, but since you will soon become best friends with the owner, they will keep it open for late ight takeout from the secret back stairwell.

    For sure. Or better yet, a coffee shop with free wireless internet and roaming kittens who always stay small.
    We can move in tomorrow. NUTS! Who’s first to visit? For those of you who came to visit us in San Francisco, the apartment is very much like that one only (I think) a little bigger. Less light tho. But that’s because the place in SF had more light than any other place I have ever seen. :]

    I worked part time next door to a French bread/sandwich place. For the first 3 days, the smell was wonderful. By the end of my term of employment, I couldn’t stand the smell of newly baked bread. Imagine that. Sometimes too much of a good thing is not so good. Whatever would have been going in downstairs from you, you would no longer want to have anything to do with.

    Yeah, that’s what I was afraid of. My sense of smell makes up for the fact that I’m deaf. I can only imagine hating whatever goes beneath us (even coffee! I bet) in a matter of weeks. :] But kittens? no way. Not that they would open a kitten romper room. but should they choose to do so, I might be ok with a kitten romper room.
    I forgot to mention another perk of the place we chose, they have a washer (for laundry) in the unit. We don’t have a dryer, but we do have a clothes line. We’ll see how that goes. :]

    It really makes a difference having your own washer in your place. I will never again go the route of having to cart my stuff elsewhere….
    But no dryer….that is cool in the summer. Nothing like fresh clothes but come winter…frozen jeans and bras? eek!

    welcome (back) to brooklyn! i meant to say that when you got here, but i guess it’s never too late… i think ace bar is exactly halfway between your new place and our new place…(i made that up, but it could be true)

    i just mapquested the area that you told me the place was on…

    there should be a supermarket on driggs & russel—a fairly large one (although not too nice, its a Met or Dag or something like that chain). its across from the south-eastern corner of mcgorlick park

    my gf used to live across from the western border of the park (on nassau, which is really bedford)

    i don’t know what the cross-streets for your apartment is, but i just remembered that supermarket

    I use to live on Maspeth Ave… not far from the White Castle. There is a funny little Italian coffee place on Humboldt that you should definitely check out (a few blocks south if the BQE) and a great Italian restaurant on Frost Street. Perhaps I will stop by and show you myself…
