I got a haircut last night. The woman didn’t even use scissors. Instead, she pulled out that razor thing and went all Edward on me. I generally tell hair stylists to do whatever they want with my hair. (I liken it to doing logo work. Things always work out better for everyone involved if the client trusts that I know what I’m doing instead of try and art direct.) I’ve only had one mishap following this technique.
It’s really short in back. But it’s easy to maintain. This is how it looks today after a torrential downpour.
I think I’m happy with it, although I’m a little shocked with the length. I was also shocked by the price tag. Who knew that taking a razor to someone’s head would cost 100 bucks? This is precisely why I only get haircuts once a year.
As long as we’re on the subject of my face, I would like to take this opportunity and give an update regarding the MOHs surgery I had last November. As I was clicking around on Flickr, it occurred to me that today is the one year anniversary of that surgery. (Nuts, eh? Years fly!) Anyway, I think that it’s a perfect time for an update.

I am quite pleased with how it’s healed, although it did take a year. Remember, wear sunscreen or you’re an idiot.
In other news, we’re heading to DC tomorrow morning. We’re leaving Em with my parents, which is giving me heartburn as well as heartache. It’s not that I don’t trust them, quite the contrary, it’s that I’m not sure I want to be away from him for two days. I already miss him. I’ve never known love like this before. How do people do this?
I’ve taken 2 business trips that have kept me away from Anthony for 7 days each. The anticipation is indeed awful, but once I reached my destination, it was much easier to bear. I missed my little poppet like there was no tomorrow, but it was more in a “can’t wait to see him!” kind of way rather than a “I think my heart will shatter in a million pieces” kind of way. I hope that makes sense!
Of course it does! I have a feeling, like with anything, the anticipation is going to hurt worse than the actual event. At least that’s what I’m hoping for. ANd if I miss him too much, I’ll make my dad and mom isight with me. Although, that may confuse him.

FWIW, Most better stylists mostly use the razor now.
I was just in DC for 2 1/2 weeks, the longest I’ve ever been away from my 5 year old. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The hardest part was the preparation. We tried using a web cam and it seemed ok when we were doing it, but it ended up being very upsetting for Annie after we logged off. She had a hard time understanding it all and every time we got off she begged my husband to take her to the airport to see me.
When they are smaller, the separation is a lot harder and I almost never went away. This time, however, it was actually really healthy because it gave her a chance to really bond differently with her father, for him to get a better taste of what it is like to walk in my shoes, and for me to get some time for myself. It was really positive actually.
You’ll be ok. It is hard, but it is good to let go a little. Coming home is the best part. A total love fest!
We’re thinking about attending an overseas wedding next year sans one year old. Minimum departure time – 5 days. I am already sweating it. Yes, they are adaptable, them little ones, but I’m not sure I am!
The scar healing – marvelous, dharling. The haircut – superb, but I’m too chicken to ever try something like it!

I went to Woodley and Bunny in Williamsburg. Her name is Laura. Thus far, VERY pleased with her work.
On a total off note, check out Marvin, a new bar/restaurant on 14th St just above U. The bar upstairs is open to the outside. It is fantastic. My new favorite place. The bar food was pretty decent too.

The hair and the MOHS look fabulous! I’ll be doing my 1 year MOHS update later this month and it’s not going to be nearly as pretty a story.
