MamaPop

I wrote a little something about Hillary Clinton over on MamaPop today. Check it out if you get the chance. It’s about her emotional “outbreak” the other day. Feel free to discuss it over there (if you can) or here. Or don’t. It’s up to you, sweet Internet people.

  1. This is making me so insane, I almost need to stop reading the news. In an op-ed piece in today’s paper, Clinton was described (by a female journalist) as having “a meltdown.”

Seriously? A meltdown? What the hell kind of lives do all these people live where a momentary crack in the voice and NOT ONE SINGLE TEAR SHED equates to a meltdown? I guess they would lock me up in a mental institution and throw away the key if they saw me after one episode of “Extreme Home Makeover.”

I’m not even sure how I feel about Clinton in this election, but I can still see rampant sexism a mile away. Iron My Shirt protesters, almost every major media outlet in America describing Clinton’s “emotional breakdown,” Edwards jumping in with the, “we need a tough leader blah blah blah” … it’s all making me insane.

Phew. Wow, I really had a lot of “quotation marks” in this comment, didn’t I? Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. :)

  2. A MELTDOWN? By another female, too? My goodness, that’s cruel.

Check this graphic out from Gothamist.

That’s what the media does when Hillary’s voice breaks.

  3. OMG! Her voice cracked! We need a tougher leader! Give me a f-ing break. The woman is tough as nails, and I’m glad she showed some emotion. Whether or not the person was a plant, I think the emotions Hillary was feeling at the time were real. Those other boys are intimidated by her, so they think they see weakness in her “emotional outburst.” I think that display of emotion before the primary might have swayed some women voters to chose her over Obama.

Thank you for the article. I started it earlier, was immediately sucked in, baby started to cry, went to him. I’m going to dive in again as soon as TJ gets home.

she’s all about control and staging events. that was not genuine. there is nothing genuine about her campaigning. ever.

  7. No problem, I’ve been posting it and emailing it to everyone I know. I read it out loud to my husband last night and was nearly in tears by the time I finished, it just sums up EXACTLY what I feel about the way she’s been treated over this, like her crying – showing some ‘female’ emotion – finally allowed all the pundits to unleash their pent up misogynistic hatred towards her.

Strong words, I know, but that’s how I felt. Also, I agree with Jonathan…well…I don’t agree, but I do think it may have been staged, but it doesn’t make the response to it any less shocking or awful.
