I just completed the tour for the body exhibit in Tucson, AZ. The exhibit was perfect.

Don't under any circumstances touch the skeleton that is hanging. Unforunately, I made that mistake. From the reaction of the staff (dressed in white lab coats-I'm sure they are not doctors or nurses) you would have thought I had just stabbed it or something just as stupid.

Then, if that was not bad enough, white coated people follow you from room to room. Just what on earth could you possibly being doing considering the rest of the exhibit is under glass.

I felt like a common crimminal! I would not ever recommend this exhibit to anyone if it is the same white coated "undercover cops" that go from city to city displaying it.

Debra, it appears that it will be up for quite some time. I think at least until February. But I didn’t spend too much time searching. I’ll get back to you on that if I’m wrong. :]

this is really beautiful mihow. i can’t wait to see it myself. growing up one of my most-reread books was “abc’s of the human body” and my step-dad’s medical journals. i had a barbie sized doll that opened up to reveal her reproductive organs and the baby inside.

you’ve intimately captured the feeling of awe, smallness, concern and tenderness all those things instilled in me.

Death and life… and the sadness of knowing. And the wonder that comes with knowing you don’t know anything at all. Sure gt gets to you, don’t it? Beautiful piece, mihow.

You should take a look at the book – How We Live. I’ll be going to the BodyWorks2 exhibit over the holidays. xo

Hey guys, the Bodies show at the Seaport is definitely going to run into the Summer and maybe all year. Here is another review of the show, but from the viewpoint of a shareholder of the producing company. That means they are sharing their insights slanted for the benefit of the other shareholders, but I found it interesting to read.

http://ragingbull.lycos.com/mboard/boards.cgi?board=PXHB&read=5770

It turns out that company also dug up the Titanic from the bottom of the ocean and runs exhibits of that stuff around the world too.

I’ve been to the show and it is truly beautiful. I do not like gore movies, but I had zero gross out factor from this show. I was transported by it. You’ll take this experience with you through the rest of your life. It is inspiring stuff.

Michele, really a very nice piece of journalism. I could feel the atmosphere of the exhibition.
The posting that Joe quoted did something similar to me, but under another aspect. It is more a technical description from the viewpoint of an investor or co-owner of the company. I found it very interesting that you cannot only buy tickets for this exciting exhibition but you can even buy shares of the company (Premier Exhibitions) and participate in their success. John mentioned that they do also the Titanic Exhibitions which I already heard about elsewhere. They are successful worldwide, with the latest Titanic exhibitions in Greece and Korea and it seems another one recently opened in the States.
I asked a friend about this company as an investment. He didn’t know Premier Exhibitions but looked it up and said the charts look great, the share price has been growing since mid 2003 from under 10 cents to nearly $4.50 now.
They have invested millions in the salvage of the Titanics artifacts and after some time of struggeling with this cost they are now more and more profitable which is obviously now reflected in the share price.

I think they merit it, they are doing a really good work with their body exhibitions which are not only exciting but in my opinion have an extremely high educational value.

Michele, I did a Google search with the keywords “premier bodies china legal” and found the interesting article that I am linking to (click on my name).
The public “Premier Exhibitions” private competitor von Hagen had been faced with similar questions and it was determined that non of the corpses had been obtained illegally.
The questions arose again when “Premier” opened their exhibition in Tampa, but there have obviously been no negative investigations, the exhibition is running there with plain success.
“The company has filed a lawsuit against von Hagens in Cleveland, charging he elbowed its “Bodies Revealed” out of a planned venue this year at the Great Lakes Science Center through a whispering campaign “questioning the legitimacy of Premier’s acquisitions of bodies” and threatening to open a rival show nearby.”

“Premier has no body-donation program, but it stated that its Chinese cadavers were obtained legally from a Chinese government-approved facility and the U.S. specimens came from the University of Michigan pathology department. (The university confirmed that it provided specimens from an old educational exhibit scheduled for cremation to a retired Michigan professor who serves as chief medical adviser to Premier.)”

It appears that the rumours about alleged illegal procurement have mainly 2 sources: one is the main competitor and the other are certain ideological groups who are against such exhibitions for their own moral point of view, which is not shared by the great majority.

You and John have described very well the huge educational value of the exhibitions.
